Many people get into this market and attempt to make money online from home.  Although most will fail and never see any income at all, those who succeed, mostly do so by simply building and managing an email subscriber list.

You see, there are a multitude of magic buttons and shiny objects to buy out there that can send you in all kinds of direct…ions in this business… but chances are, if you check the last 5 things you bought in this market, at least 4 of them you bought from an email you got… if not all 5 of them came from someone emailing you and recommending you buy something.

Therefore, no matter what you attempt to do in this market, perhaps the most popular technique (that works) of all is simply building and managing a list.  In fact, I’ll go as far as saying that if that’s all you focused on (list building)… you’d hit your income goals faster than you currently realize.

Because you see, most people out there will continue chasing those magic buttons, while you’ve been busy building a list.  And, a list is an asset.  A list is leverage you can utilize to earn yourself a ton of money, easily.  Imagine simply sending out an email and all these people rushing to buy what you are recommending.  Can you picture that?

Well, that’s how most of the six and seven figure marketers I know do it.  They build, manage and grow their email subscriber lists.  They brand themselves to that list, they warm that list up to them, they give them free content and they sell them offers.

Lastly, most will still never fully focus on list building.  They’ll continue to ignore it or get so distracted by all the shiny objects and pipe dreams that they lose track of the most obvious way to make money there is in this business, list building.

I can survey 10,000 people in this market and 9,000 of them probably still do not have a squeeze page up and online building them a list.  I can then survey that same group of 10,000 people a year from now and the numbers will be about the same.  Most will not have a list or even be focusing on it.  However, all 10,000 would have bought shiny objects throughout that year… and more surprisingly, most will have put in at least 15 hours per week on their “make money from home” dreams (in front of their computers) without any results to brag about.  Yes, even two years later, it would remain the same.

However, those who focused on list building & management would be the one’s bragging about how much money they made… and how easy it was to earn it.

As I was taking my pre-allotted amount of time doing a check of the old inbox this morning an email caught my eye so I dug a little further. And I’m glad I did as I found a great blog post about making money online in three steps.

Why I am drawn to this blog post is because of the myriad of info being published about said topic. Some good, some not so good and some are just like “are ya kidding me”. I’m sure you’ve run across the same and that’s why I thought it would be a good idea to share this one.

Video Marketing – Strategies For Marketing That Work

If you’re not using video as part of your marketing strategy you should be. But there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.

First here are some interesting stats for YouTube:

  • has 55% of the market share for video hosting
  • 35+ hours of video are uploaded per minute
  • in 2010 there were 13 million hours of footage uploaded
  • gets about 3 billion video views per day
  • is the 2nd largest search engine & 3rd most visited website
  • the average visitor spends about 15 minutes per day
  • attracts a huge demographic (18-54 age group)

In other words there are a whole bunch of folks going to YouTube on a daily basis not only for entertainment but for actual research as well. Honestly it’s a “go to” research site for me also.

Let’s get some misconceptions out of the way right now.

Your videos do not have to be viral sensations. If one does go viral that’s great but what you want to strive for are “sticky” videos, ones that last a long time and continue to get attention.

Your videos don’t have to be production masterpieces, in fact all you really need are videos that are just ok. A lot of successful video marketers are using either a smartphone, their laptop video cam or a Flip camera or some iteration of it.

What is way more important is content and consistency of submitting.

Another video marketing mistake folks make when creating a video is they make one about something they like. That’s ok for entertainment but for marketing strategy purposes you need to do some keyword research just like you would do for creating an article. The old sage advice rings true with video as well, discover what folks are looking for and jump right in the middle of it.

Here are some tips to making a sticky video.

Keep them short, 2 to 3 minutes is good especially if you’re new. Asking a visitor to watch a 10 minute video probably isn’t going to work so well when they don’t know you. Like any other social setting you need to let your new visitor get to know you in short bursts. If they like the content you provide they’ll keep coming back.

Editing is a good thing. Adding things like music, and having a nice backdrop will do nothing but help. But as I mentioned earlier good content trumps poor production most of the time.

Be engaging. Be yourself and act natural. Speak to the camera like you’re talking to an old friend. No one is really fond of feeling like they’re being sold something so keep it light. And don’t forget to ask questions to get the viewer thinking.

And here are some video marketing strategy tips to help your video rank higher.

Add a call to action overlay in your video. You’ve seen the little banner ads that are added to some videos, well you can make them for your own purposes as well.

Create backlinks to your video and as equally important your channel as well.

Ask for video responses also. Here’s one way to do this. Lets say you have a channel named “Dog Training Made Easy”, you could also have another channel named ” I Love Toy Fox Terriers” and use the one channel to post a video response to the other, just don’t overdo it.

Article Marketing – How To Write An Article

Article marketing is an important part of a successful online business. Articles can be used to drive traffic, create backlinks, and can be turned into videos or podcasts and act as a landing page for pay per click advertising. That’s why putting some thought into what goes into the article is important.

Using this article as an example the first thing I’ll do is go to the Google Adword Keyword Tool. If you have a gmail account you can sign in with that or go through the process of creating an account. Once inside I typed in the phrase “article marketing” in the search box and was supplied with a long list of other keyword phrases that were relevant to “article marketing”. Examples would be writing articles, what is article marketing, and how to write an article. All these keywords get a very decent amount of global and local searches on a monthly basis.

Using that infomation I came up with the title “Article Marketing – How To Write An Article”. Moving forward I use a very basic outline to proceed. That outline is to start with an intro, add good content, and close with a call to action or a simple quick review of the content given. An excellent source for more information on how to write an article can be found at EzineArticles.com. They are also a great place to submit your articles.

For some, article writing comes easy, for me not so much. But with the use of the keyword tool and my basic outline the job becomes much easier.

What Is Pay Per Click – Microsoft adCenter

What is pay per click? If you’re new to internet or network marketing pay per click seems to be a topic of great mystery. The notion exists that you can literally loose your shirt if you go about it the wrong way. And I suppose there may be some truth to that if you’re the kind of marketer that has no interest in monitoring what is happening. Or if you’re one of those who think they have it all figured out and didn’t bother going to the source for the correct info.

Ok, so what is Pay Per Click? It’s a form of advertising that requires you to pay for visitors that click on your ads. This is in contrast with all the free forms of advertising that exists. Things like article marketing, backlinking, video marketing, blog posting and the like. Most of the top successful internet marketers agree that pay per click is by far a quicker way to get to your internet marketing monetary goals. You have to be smart about it but it is a faster way to advance.

Part of the internet coaching program I belong to included having some pay per click ads set up on the Microsoft adCenter. After the ads were set up I noticed that my impression were relatively high compared to the click through rate. Along with those stats were some pretty poor quality scores as well as poor ad placement. So of course the first thing that came to mind was “what the hell”?

As it turned out, when I created an account with Microsoft adCenter I joined their mailing list to receive updates and what not. In my email inbox came a message telling of a webinar dealing with the topic of pay per click for the newbies, I’m paraphrasing here but you get the idea what the content was about. So I sign up for the FREE webinar and marked my calendar for the upcoming event.

The webinar geared towards us newbies was packed with really relevant info. It lasted an hour, was very professionally presented and even had some Q&A time as well.

What I learned was that the ads the coaching program set up were not done entirely correctly. Issues with ad keyword content not being relevant to the landing page content was making the Quality Score very low. I also found out that it’s not enough to just pick the UK, Canada and Australia to be included in the US ads, it doesn’t work that way. Australia isn’t even supported by the Bing network and the UK and Canada have to have ads directed at their respective portals. If their not and an internet user from the UK or Canada doesn’t switch from their local browsing to US browsing, guess what, they won’t see your ads.

So after the webinar I get on the live chat at the Microsoft adCenter and find out what I need to do to make this correct. This chat lasted for an hour, so total time spent with Microsoft adCenter so far is two hours at a total cost of FREE. The outcome of the chat was I needed to go back and do some keyword research, make the ad keywords and the landing page keywords be the same and come up with some new ad wording. The chat ended with the support person making an appointment to follow up to make sure I’m on the right path to having some success with the ads. Again at a cost of FREE.

Another topic that was discussed was the terms of use and editorial guidelines. Two of the most important things I took away from that was that the landing page had to have at least 50% original content that didn’t include any pics or video, those don’t count. You can have them on the landing page but it’s the text that counts towards the original content. The other thing that was made clear was that the website were the landing page is has to have a Privacy Policy in plain view. That Privacy Policy has to include information about WHO is collecting contact info if indeed you are, WHY you’re collecting the contact info, WHAT you’re intending to do with that contact info, and HOW a subscriber can opt out if they so desire.

And let me reiterate, all this for the grand total cost of FREE.

Pay Per Click advertising can be a winning proposition however one needs to set up an account with Microsoft adCenter and call in or start an online chat to get your issues straightened out, for FREE.

I was told they will even look at the ads you create and be upfront and tell you if it’s OK or it needs some work. Not a bad deal in my opinion.

5 Steps To Online Success

For the last few years more and more people have decided that making money online by working at home is a very viable option. Maybe they are looking to supplement their existing income or maybe their in a position that requires an income replacement. Regardless of the why, here are five steps that can help achieve those goals.

Step One
You must set goals. I know this has been talked ad nauseum but it’s most important. Simply put you need to be able to figure out where you are and be able to know where you need to be. Without that clear picture written down to make you accountable it’s way to easy to not do what’s required.

Step Two 
Become a master list maker. Here is the one big truth that no one likes to talk about when it comes to working at home, it’s to easy not to do what’s required. You’d be amazed how all the sudden mowing the grass suddenly looks attractive to you. My suggestion is at the end of your work at home day to make a list of things to do for the following day. It really helps get your day started right and is a big help at getting your goals accomplished.

Step Three 
Be enthusiastic. Lets face it, when you’re in a positing of needing more money there seems to be a certain amount of negative emotional baggage that comes with it. Making good decisions and being the best work at home person you can be is really hard if you’re down about your situation. I know it looks good on paper but you have to get over it. Talk to someone or get counseling if need be, you’ll be glad you did later on. Being enthusiastic helps you make decisions because things just seem clearer. It also allows you to make better business contacts. Your enthusiasm will also attract others enthusiasm. All that positive energy is win, win for all involved.

Step Four 
Schedule your time wisely. As stated earlier it’s way to easy to get off track when working at home to make money online. Not even taking into consideration all the things around the house that all the sudden becomes more apparent but the online world has its own kind of detractors. While using your computer to make money online you’ll no doubt get involved in social networking if you’re not already. Adding content to your Facebook page probably isn’t going to help reach your goals. Oh you may fool yourself into thinking that your Facebook time is important but mostly it’s not. And YouTube is another huge waste of time. You really have to be careful here because YouTube is a great research tool. However you’re only a click away from the funniest video of the day and that can literally take up hours.

Step Five 
Have an area set aside in your home as your office or work area if at all possible. Nothing else should go on in that area it should be dedicated to your at home work. To go along with that you should take care and pride in that work area. Clutter leads to inefficiency and that leads to you not reaching your financial goals. I must confess that I do maintain a certain amount of organized clutter but I know when enough is enough and you should to.

Making money online by working at home affords you many possibilities as far as opportunity is concerned. Following these five steps will help keep you course to success.

Master These Two Skills To Make Money Online

There are a lot of people turning to internet marketing or network marketing to supplement or replace their incomes. Some have made the choice because they have no other options and some do it because they’re sucked in by all the hype of most of the current marketing campaigns. You know the ones that tell you you don’t have to know anything to get started and you can quickly become rich. When you’re in the middle of financial hard times these campaigns can seem very attractive. I mean really, who doesn’t want quick money coming in with little to no effort. But does it really work that way? I challenge you to find anyone who has made it that way.

When making the decision to make money online there are more than a few decisions you’ll have to make. None of it’s rocket science but it will require some thought. Among those decisions will be whether you’ll be creating your own product or service or taking a commission by selling someone elses product or service. Another will be what kind of website presence will you have? Will you have your own site or will you be using some sort of social media to achieve your goals. Two of most important things you’ll have to learn to make any of it work is how to generate traffic and how to write effective copy. Don’t let these requirements detract you, they’re not as hard to learn as you might think.

You can generate traffic a couple of different ways. One is the free way and two is the paid way. There is a lot of debate as to which way to go and making the decision really boils down to your marketing budget. Free traffic means you don’t pay anything monetarily however you will be paying with time. Free traffic generation methods take time to work. Lets use article marketing for an example. You’ll need to create an article relevant to your product or service and then submit it to an article directory for approval. Once the article is approved and put out there for the world to see you then need to wait for your target audience to find the article and respond to it. If the article isn’t getting any play you’ll need to write and submit another one and see how that one works. By the way article marketing is one of the most used ways to get free traffic, so although there is a learning curve it’s very effective and anyone who is motivated to do it will make it work and work well.

In comparison paid traffic generation methods are quick to set up and implement but it requires more money than time. You sign up for a pay per click account with some of the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. You then create an ad for your product or service that is placed on the top or right hand side of the search engine results. They get immediate exposure and you can quickly tell if your ad is working or not. I believe this is a great way to start out but you must plan for it in your marketing budget. After you have some success at the paid methods go ahead and start implementing your free strategies as well.

Whether your using paid or free traffic getting methods you’ll also need to have at least a basic understanding of how effective copywriting works. That may sound complicated but it’s really not. Remember I said to start you need a basic understanding so there is no need to reinvent the wheel here. You simply go to places like the Yahoo homepage and see what the headlines are. Getting visitors to read their articles is their business so they know what they’re doing. You can also use newspaper or magazine headlines. Magazines in particular have very limited space so their copywriters know how to use that limited space very effectively.

How does that relate to your marketing efforts? One method to use is to take the daily headlines and tailor it to be relevant to your product or service. Never under any circumstances copy word for word. For example in today’s Yahoo headlines there was an article titled “How To Kill Your Automobile”, even if you’re not into cars that draws your attention and you’ll likely look at that article. Ok, say you’re in the health and fitness niche, maybe you article headline could be “How Americans Are Ending Their Lives Early With Bad Eating Habits” or “Don’t Kill Yourself With These Bad Eating Habits”.

In making money online with internet marketing there is no magic button and no free rides. If you wish to achieve better that average financial results you’ll have to put in some work. Using these basic guidelines should help you on that path.

How To Effectively Use Keywords In Article Marketing

To make money online with articles it’s important to know how to optimize the article not only with the correct keywords but also their placement. The objective of your article should be to get the reader interested in visiting your website and check out the product or service you are providing or simply to be a repeat visitor. That being said lets take a look at how to use and place keywords in your article.

A keyword is a word or phrase that is the focal point of the article. Lets say you want to write an article that will attract readers to your website that sells tires for red bicycles. Possible keywords could be bicycle, red bicycle or tire or red bicycle tire, the best choice in my opinion is red bicycle tire. Red bicycle tires is what your site is about ergo that’s what the focus of the article should be about. Setting up the structure of your article this way is good search engine optimization and that’s very important when you want to make money online. Your article will have the keyword phrase red bicycle tire, and it will provide a link to your site which is about red bicycle tires. So far we’re on the right track. The next thing we need to focus on is keyword density.

Keyword density refers to the amount of times your keyword or keyword phrase is used through out the article. I won’t site specifics here but you should be aware that every article directory probably has their own guidelines as to what density will be allowed. This is done primarily to maintain a certain level of integrity in the submitted article and to prevent spamming. For example if you as a consumer were looking for a legitimate article on red bicycle tires and you ran across an article that really said nothing about the subject you were searching for but just constantly repeated the phrase red bicycle tire, you’d likely skip right over it and move on to the next site. This is no good for the article directory plus the search engines will most likely not recognize the article as being anything but spam. In other words the website owner and article author is just wasting their time. The article directories won’t want them and the search engines won’t recognize them. When you’re trying to make money online this is not the way to go about it.

Placement of the keyword or phrase is important as well. It’s common practice to try and use the keyword in the title of the article. The next place your keyword should show up is in the first paragraph of the article. Of course the keyword should be judicially placed in the body of the article and it should show up again in the ending paragraph.

Using articles to make money online is a very prudent. Keep in mind that some thought needs to be put into the keyword or phrase, its density and placement in the article.

RoboForm Password Manager and Internet Explorer 64 bit

I’ll admit it, I’m no expert when it comes to how a computer works. But over the years I’ve discovered as I’m sure you have as well how certain things work. Or at least you’ve figured out what to do when something doesn’t work, or you know enough to either google or youtube for an answer. Wait, did he just say youtube for an answer? Yep I did, sometimes I just prefer to look and listen instead of read the solution.

So anyhow I decided I needed a secure password manager for all the sites I visit on a regular basis. Well let me preface that statement by saying that my lovely wife decided she wanted one. You see when she logged onto the computer under her user name she discovered that the windows password manager wasn’t keeping her passwords stored. I think what was happening was that when I logged on under my username and then finished my browsing session I would always go to tools and then delete browsing history. Doing so deleted any temporary internet files, cookies and history. And I believe it was deleting the cookies on her side that was responsible for maintaining the passwords. Like I said I’m no expert, that’s just my opinion.

So I start to search for a secure password manager and I come across RoboForm. I’ve heard of them before so I decided to delve deeper into their website for more info. They claim to be the most downloaded secure password manager. But what really sold me was the simplicity of how it works. Basically you login to RoboForm once and you have one click access to all your other sites.

Of course you have to set it up, it can’t read your mind or your little notebook where all your passwords are currently stored. Meaning when you go to a website that requires a username and password you type the info in and simply click save and the info is stored in the RoboForm software. It can also be used to fill out forms so it can be used for any site that requires your name, rank and serial number.

Now just in case you didn’t pick up on this little nicety, because it is a software you can access it from multiple locations such as another computer or you mobile device. Because lets face it, we all know sooner or later something will happen to your computer. I may not know much but I do know that. 

Ok, so by now you’ve probably figured out that yes I love RoboForm and more importantly so does my lovely wife.

Onto the 64 bit thingy.

During the download process RoboForm asked me if I had Internet Explorer 32 bit or 64 bit. We have two computers, one has Windows XP and one Windows 7. I was kinda thinkin the XP had the 32 bit version and the Windows 7 could have either. However like I mentioned previously I really had no concrete knowledge to back that little theory up so I figured I might as well find out for sure before I muck something up and cause myself undue hours of fix time and a migraine.

I was pretty sure that the Windows XP was a 32 bit system but I wanted to verify. And what I found out through some googleing (is that really a word) that if you have a 64 bit system it would say that in the computer properties. If it doesn’t say ”64 bit”, it isn’t a 64 bit system. The computer is old enough that I don’t even remember 64 bit being part of any home computer consumer verbiage.

I knew for sure that the Windows 7 was a 64 bit system because when I ordered it I found out I couldn’t get it in 32 bit. But for clarity you should left click your start button, when the new screen pops up right click on computer and left click properties to make sure. Because I’m not sure that all Windows 7 iterations are 64 bit.

You can use similar detective work for discovering what version of Internet Explorer you have. If you have IE up and running go to the area directly under the URL search bar that has the File, Edit View etc. options. Left click Help, left click About Internet Explorer and a pop up appears that gives you all kinds of info about the version of IE you are using version, cipher strength and product id. Again it’s important to note that if it does not say “64 bit” anywhere in that description you do not have IE 64 bit.

Is RoboForm worth it?

Well it managed to get me in good with my lovely wife again. And I’ve been successfully using it on two different computers with two different operating systems for about 3 weeks now and have experienced no problems or glitches what so ever.

So yes, I believe it’s well worth it and highly recommend it.
